Why cold-pressed and hexane-free actually matters!
Most cheap castor oil is extracted with hexane — a petroleum solvent that pulls more oil out of the bean for less money. It's faster and it's cheaper, and it leaves trace solvent behind in something you're putting near your eyes.
Cold-pressing takes longer and yields less. It's also the only way to get oil that's just oil. Ours is pressed without heat or solvents and bottled in amber glass, because light degrades castor oil and plastic doesn't belong anywhere near it.
Not all castor oil is the same
